Bunny Hennessey explores painting as a space through which sensation, movement, and bodily experience can be externalised and transformed. Emerging from the physical and sensory conditions of painting itself, her work is driven by motion, pressure, and tempo, investigating how feeling accumulates, disperses, and reorganises through the body. Working intuitively across oil, acrylic, and watercolour, Hennessey approaches the canvas as a site of embodied negotiation, where gesture becomes a record of unconscious physical reactions rather than a vehicle for representation. The painting functions as a container for sensation, holding emotional and corporeal tensions outside the body and allowing them to be reconfigured through material process.

Responsive and instinctive, Hennessey's practice unfolds through cycles of improvisation, repetition, and reflection. Sweeping gestures give way to compressed, insistent marks; periods of velocity are interrupted by hesitation and revision. Paint is applied, scraped away, and reintroduced, creating surfaces that oscillate between density and exposure. Hovering between abstraction and somatic suggestion, forms emerge briefly before dissolving, as if caught in a continual state of transformation. Colour is approached through appetite and physical response, while brushstrokes function as residues of emotional exertion recorded through the body. Through this ongoing dialogue between material and sensation, Hennessey creates paintings that resist fixed interpretation, opening a space for release, renewal, and continual reappraisal.
