Marius Bercea
Born 1979, Cluj-Napoca, Romania

The gentle ordinariness of Marius Bercea’s paintings unveil an incandescent interconnection. His pensive compositions contemplate both the spatial and temporal, and in doing so, amplify the pause and pregnancy of their respective reflections. There is a deliberate swing from hatched modelling to unadorned delineation so that his characters, often marginalised in the pictorial space, ebb in and out not only of graphic registration but of indexical potency. Space, as physical dimension, or cryptic, transcendental plane is made manifest both as presence and absence and, significantly, by the protagonists which penetrate his painterly matrix.
