Martyn Cross
Born 1975, Yate, UK

Martyn Cross’ enigmatic works exude a cryptic presence. Protagonists hybridised with their environment, and narratives choreographed from many different (and conflicting) religious or spiritual texts disturb the human, earthly tales that play out across his surfaces. Knocked-back, harmonious palettes of pale ochres, and neutral colours are often gritted and gives Cross’ surface its very earthly yet frangible texture. His works speaks to the uncanny ambiguity of the spiritual world and leaves us to face the enigma of what it means to be human.
