Matt Carey-Williams is delighted to present Episode IV: Lauren Brown, Host, at Hoxton Arches, following her first solo exhibition at 12 Porchester Place in 2025.
Brown's paintings inhabit unstable worlds where figures, landscapes and atmospheres continually dissolve into one another. Working through layers of translucent glazes and gestural marks, she creates compositions that resist fixed interpretation, allowing forms to emerge only fleetingly before slipping back into abstraction. At once intimate and vast, psychological and physical, Brown expands upon her previous references, now drawing inspiration from the paintings of J.M.W. Turner, and his ability to capture both beauty and disorder through atmosphere. Rather than offering resolution, Brown's paintings invite viewers into spaces of ambiguity, where meaning remains fluid and the unknown becomes a generative force.
